Touch Theatre: Escaped Alone
How do you take your tea? Black with a twist of banality? One anxiety or two?
Mrs Jarrett likes to pop round to join her friends for a cup of tea and a natter. A nice way to spend the summer. The women have had issues but don't really like to dwell on the past, especially when you have quantum mechanics, the new Sci-fi series on TV and the latest hip replacement to discuss. Meantime, what on earth is happening to the planet?
‘Escaped Alone’ showcases four engaging women who maintain the simple pleasures of tea and small talk interspersed with apocalyptic and increasingly absurdist visions of environmental collapse.
The play deals with the ordinary and the extraordinary, at one level exploring the fragmented nature of memory and the experience of trauma and at another looking at how the media is reporting and trivialising the effect mankind is having on the planet.
Touch Theatre is delighted to be bringing the work of renowned political and environmental playwright ,Caryl Churchill, on tour and hopes, by participating in beach clean ups and contributions, to highlight the Surfers Against Sewage campaigns that aim to preserve our coastlines and oceans and help fight plastic pollution and other threats to our environment.
